BYU's Scott Young Quotes,
Philadelphia Eagles 2005 5th Round draft pick
April 24, 2005
On whether he sees himself as having an upside, being that
he has only played guard for one year: "Yes. I believe
I have a lot of potential. As for people that have seen me
on film and know me personally, I don't think anybody knows
where my limits are and where my potential is going to max
out.
"I played O-line for two years. I played it in high school,
but I played D-Line for 3 years in college. It was an easy,
successful move for me and I think the sky is the limit. I'm
just really looking forward to get into this system and learn
everything now."
On why he made the switch from DT to G in his senior year:
"I'm the type of person that wants to be on the field
helping as much as possible. There was a huge lack of offensive
linemen at the end of my junior year. It was brought up by
the whole coaching staff and they just said, 'This is the
way for you to have everything you want with football. We
think that your potential for the NFL is a lot greater at
O-line than at D-Line.' It was just a mutual agreement between
the coaching staff, my parents and I."
On whether the Eagles have given him an indication of where
he would fit in here: "They haven't. I really enjoyed
talking to [offensive line coach] Juan Castillo. I think that
we've had some really good conversations and I know how well
big guys from BYU have done up there and are currently doing
up there. I'm just excited to already know a couple of people
up there like [RB] Reno [Mahe] and [TE] Chad Lewis."
On whether he was aware of the fact that Coach Andy Reid
was a former BYU offensive lineman: "Oh yeah. That's
huge out here. The Eagles are the team. I guess it has to
do with BYU being a religious institution and with Coach Reid
and some of the players coming through here. There is a huge
following out in Utah."
On whether he has talked to Coach Reid: "Yes. I talked
to him at the combine. One of my main team interviews was
with Coach Reid and the Eagles coaching staff. And when I
was just called about 5-10 minutes ago, Coach Reid got on
the phone and asked me if I had gone to church today."
On whether he went to church today: "No. I didn't sleep
last night to tell you the truth."
