Reid
On Drafting Sheppard - April 20, 2002
On how exciting today has been for him: I was
sweating bullets. Now that its all over, Im ready
to play. I enjoyed the process that I went through and Im
just ready to play right now.
On whether he was surprised he was not selected by the Jets:
I really was. I was a little bothered by it, but thats
the way it goes. Im just trying to make the most out
of my opportunity and show the Jets they missed a good thing.
On whether he knows about the Eagles and how he will fit
in: I do. I watched them throughout the season and
even in the playoffs. They already have a great secondary
and I plan on adding my own unique flavor and making them
a lot better.
On how you see yourself fitting in with the players in
the defensive backfield of the Eagles: They will
just have to add a Lito Sheppard in. I bring something different
to the table. I bring excitement, great ball skills. I can
do a bunch of different things and I plan on showing Philadelphia
what Im all about.
On whether he would plan on getting some work in as a
return man: I would love to. If the opportunity
arises, I would make the most out of my opportunity. I plan
on it. I would love to.
On other teams that showed interest in him: The
San Francisco 49ers showed a lot of interest in me. Thats
where I was banking on, at worst. Thats why I was so
surprised with Philadelphia. I really thought the 49ers had
a great interest in me."
On practicing against the receivers at Florida: It
helped me build up my confidence a lot. It gave me more things
to work on because they bring a lot of unique techniques to
the ball. I got a lot of practice in with Reche (Caldwell)
and Jabar (Gaffney) and I learned a lot from them and they
learned a lot from me.
