BOBBY WILLIAMS
OL | (6-3 3/4, 325, 5.3) | Arkansas
by Pro Football Weekly Drafted by: Philadelphia, Pick 30, Round
2 , Overall 61
Notes:
Played football and basketball and was on the track team in high
school. Redshirted in 1995. Backup in '96 and has started the past
three years.
Positives:
Nice size. Very large wingspan. Huge hands and long arms.
Good lower-body explosion, leg drive and levered strength when he
bends his knees and plays with good technique. Can be a dominating
player in the run game. Has the ability to maul and brawl yet also
shows flashes of ability as a pass blocker. Looks pretty athletic
and light on his feet when he has his weight under control. Can
play with balance and body control. Got a lot better in '99 and
has just touched the surface of his potential. Has been durable.
Negatives:
Overweight underachiever for most of his career. Gets lazy
about bending knees and using proper technique. Is cut a little
high and tends to play too upright and to rely more on his upper
body to generate his strength. Needs to stay low and to bend his
knees all the time. Must learn what it takes at the next level and
improve his practice habits and concentration. Has cut down on mistakes
but still blows too many assignments. Does not know how to really
study film of an opponent and is not as prepared going into games
as he should be, although he is smart enough to learn a system and
learn how to study film.
Summary:
Could develop into a starting offensive lineman in the NFL
if he will pay the price, but he has a long way to go in many of
the intangible areas and has been an underachiever throughout his
career, although he did play harder in '99.
