GARI SCOTT
WR | (6-0, 190, 4.55) | Michigan State
by Pro Football Weekly Drafted by: Philadelphia, Pick 5, Round 4
, Overall 99
Notes:
Starred in football and basketball and ran track in high school.
Played in 10 games, including two starts, and caught five passes
for 89 yards and a touchdown as a freshman. Also returned a kickoff
for 22 yards. Started every game in 1997, catching 41-680-7, returning
11 kickoffs for 283 yards and bringing back 15 punts for 160 yardns.
Had his best season in '98, snatching 58-843-4, returning 18 kickoffs
for 354 yards and taking back 32 punts for 440 yards. Started 10
games in '99 but was hobbled for much of the year by a sprained
ankle and thigh problem. Caught just 29-473-6, returned 36 punts
for 475 yards and his only score as a return man and took back seven
kickoffs for 137 yards.
Positives:
Above-average size. Good hands. Above-average route runner.
Can return kickoffs and punts. Solid competitor. Works hard. Has
been fairly productive.
Negatives:
Second-WR type. Does a lot of things pretty well but has
no outstanding physical characteristic. Will need a lot of reps
and work on reading coverages.
Summary:
OK but not special. Could make an NFL team as a backup and
return man if he can pick up the offense. From a physical ability
standpoint, Scott is a lot like the Titans' Derrick Mason, who also
attended Michigan State.
