GUARD LONNIE PALELEI

The Philadelphia Eagles Thursday announced that they have agreed to a contract with unrestricted free agent guard Lonnie Palelei (pronounced pah-le-LAY). As is club policy terms of the deal are undisclosed.

Palelei, 28, was originally drafted in the fifth round (the 135th pick overall) in 1993 by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He spent the next two-and-a-half years as a Steeler before making stops in Cleveland/Baltimore and in New York with both the Jets and Giants. Now entering his sixth NFL season the 6-3, 310-pound Palelei has started 14 career games, including 13 as a member of the Jets in 1997.

A native of Nu'uuli, America Somoa, Palelei played collegiately at UNLV, where he earned first-team All-Big West honors as a senior. He transferred to UNLV after playing one season at Purdue.
